I was just listening to audio book and author was talking about how looking at art (in person versus online) has the ability to slow us down and be present...which is totally what nature does! VERY COOL! We are SO LUCKY!!
Whitney Alexanderson Heaveyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13845373668920788936noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6351608290920381100.post-8224702763534658562019-01-13T14:36:58.978-08:002019-01-13T14:36:58.978-08:00Thank you Whitney, great article on collecting art...
Thank you Whitney, great article on collecting art. The art I've purchased, traded for and inherited gives me pleasure every day. Art and nature share the same nurturing qualities for me - fortunately, I have daily access to both!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16904590230641461177noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6351608290920381100.post-67748543679783732602015-01-13T18:30:48.877-08:002015-01-13T18:30:48.877-08:00Thank you, Whitney. Thanks for the framing tip...great advice! My formal art and art history education is woefully brief. Yet, we seem to have covered our walls with art.

I commissioned my first piece in high school and I still enjoy looking at it. We often buy art on trips; looking at it reminds us of our travel adventures. I also love buying pieces from people I know or from people I know. Maynard artists are well-represented on our walls.

Last year, we walked into a gallery owned by someone we've worked with over the years. My husband's eyes went directly to one painting. I swear, if he'd been looking at a human, I would be long-forgotten at this point -- it was love at first sight. It's the major piece hanging in our living room now.

I have no idea if any of what we've bought is "good" or "valuable." It's not a commodity; it's something that brings us joy, triggers memories, makes us laugh and think. If friends enjoy it, so much the better.

One tip about buying art - establish a good relationship with a fantastic framer. Right now, our go-to people are Nick and Kelly at Gallery 7. Nick understands how to frame so that the artwork is the star and the frame is the supporting player. Prices are reasonable and N&K are a delight to work with.

Liz AugustineAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6351608290920381100.post-50239492664360100232014-11-17T18:55:29.733-08:002014-11-17T18:55:29.733-08:00I totally agree, Denise!
